Free addition and subtraction test sheets (PDF)
Six one-page tests of 60 questions, from number bonds to 10 up to three- and four-digit numbers in your head, with answers. For Years 3 to 6, building quick mental addition and subtraction.
What’s in it
The sheets climb in steps, the way children are taught: number bonds to 10 and 20, then bonds to 100 and 1000, then adding or taking away a one-digit number across a ten, then two-digit numbers, then three- and four-digit numbers in your head (tens and hundreds, and numbers near a hundred, such as adding 99). The last sheet mixes adding, taking away and missing numbers. No question comes up twice on a sheet, and the answers are at the back.
Start with the sheet that feels comfortable and time it, then mark it and write in the time and the score. Move up a sheet when the score is nearly full and the time keeps dropping. These are all for doing in your head: the point is a quick, reliable method, not a written column sum.
