Free 2D and 3D shapes cheat sheet: properties, faces and nets (PDF)

Polygon names, triangles, the quadrilateral family tree, lines of symmetry and circles, then faces, edges and vertices of 3D shapes, and nets. For Years 3 to 6, and for the shape questions in 11+ maths.

A4 PDF, 2 pages, 836 KB.

The first page of the 2D and 3D shapes.

What’s in it

The first page is 2D: the names of polygons from 3 to 12 sides, regular and irregular, the four kinds of triangle with their marks drawn true, the quadrilateral family tree showing what each shape has (parallel sides, equal sides, right angles), lines of symmetry for regular polygons and quadrilaterals, and the parts of a circle.

The second page is 3D: faces, edges and vertices for ten solids in one table, with how curved shapes are counted, a labelled cube, the rules for prisms and pyramids, Euler’s rule as an extra, and nets of a cube, a cuboid, a triangular prism and a square-based pyramid. Every count is worked out by code, and every net is checked to fold.
